Rotherham United Football Club fans are encouraged to save the date for an extra special fixture alongside Dr Ted at Rotherham Hospital.

The Millers will be hoping for cheers of a different kind when they switch on the festive lights at the Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity’s Christmas Fair. The festive fundraiser will be held in reception at Rotherham Hospital on Tuesday 3 December, from 10.30am to 2pm.

Mike Smith, Chair of the Charitable Funds Committee, said: “We know that Christmas can be a joyful time for some people but difficult for others too. We also know that many people in Rotherham are passionate about football and we wanted to bring some seasonal cheer to our colleagues, patients and their families.

“We’re delighted that a host of players from Rotherham United will be with us to mark the countdown to Christmas and fingers crossed your favourite player will be attending too.

“The Christmas Fair is one of the charity’s biggest events of the year. Whether you can host a craft or fundraising stall, donate a selection box or pop along to buy a raffle ticket and cake, we would very much appreciate your support.”

Youngsters who are on the ‘good list’ will have the opportunity to meet Santa and Rotherham United’s players will switch on the Christmas tree lights at Rotherham Hospital alongside the Mayor of Rotherham, Councillor Jenny Andrews.

Pupils from Busy Bees Nursery, based at Oakwood Hall Drive, and St Bernard’s Catholic High School, Herringthorpe Valley Road, will be singing festive carols to entertain visitors. Colleagues from Unison Rotherham Health will also be hosting a tombola and bake sale.

All the funds raised will boost the charity's Dr Ted children's appealNew Link, which funds equipment, resources and projects which benefit babies, children and young people in the community and at Rotherham Hospital.
