We provide anaesthesia and pain relief for surgical procedures in main theatre and day surgery theatre. This anaesthesia can be:
- General, where the patient is asleep
- Regional, producing pain relief and a lack of sensation to a section of the body
- Local, for use in a smaller area of the body.
We also provide the Intensive Care and High Dependency Care in the special units in the hospital as well as services to the departments of Accident and Emergency, Psychiatry, Obstetrics (Labour Ward), Dentistry and Coronary Care. In many of these areas the anaesthetic staff work closely with other specialities as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT).
